Nellie Nominated for Earthshot Prize 2025
We are pleased to announce that Nellie Technologies has been nominated for the Earthshot Prize 2025—one of the most prestigious global honours recognising impactful and scalable solutions to the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Founded in 2022, Nellie Technologies delivers innovative carbon dioxide removal through the cultivation of algae and its transformation into biochar and biogenic aggregates. This approach not only contributes to long-term atmospheric carbon sequestration but also supports sustainable agriculture and rural economic development.
The Earthshot Prize, launched by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in 2020, rewards breakthrough environmental solutions that demonstrate the power of human ingenuity. It comprises five categories, each aligned with a specific goal to repair and regenerate the planet. Each year, only a select number of ventures are nominated from thousands of global candidates. We are honoured to be among them.
Our nomination acknowledges the core philosophy that underpins our work: carbon dioxide removal must deliver both environmental and economic value. It must be a viable business model, capable of generating climate impact at scale while delivering tangible co-benefits—such as improving soil health, supporting agricultural productivity, and creating skilled employment in post-industrial regions.
We are grateful for the support of our nominating partners:

• Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys
• Lancaster University
• Standard Chartered

We recognise that this nomination reflects not only the work of our team, but also the trust and collaboration of our partners, customers, and stakeholders across the carbon removal ecosystem. As we continue to scale our technology and deepen our impact, we remain committed to transparency, scientific rigour, and real-world applicability.
